Artist BIO
Ayah Davis-Karim
I am a mixed media artist who uses vividly colored acrylic paint, fabric and found objects to help people affirm their cultural identities and uplift moods. Melanated women are the primary subjects of my work. Abstract figures and faces intentionally without features and realism, to allow viewers to see themselves reflected in the work. Bright saturated colors are used to reflect the personalities and cultures of melanated people. I often incorporate collage elements, scraps of fabric, fabric flowers, beads, shells, sequins, and leftover braid hair to add texture, while finding use for unconventional or disposable materials.
