Life is filled with so many celebrations of beautiful color! From a little girl, my Mom and Dad taught me to really see and appreciate God's creation - intricacies of a flower, the brilliance of a sunset, peaceful stroll on a white sandy beach, the playful breeze in a tall field, the immense majesty and movement of the ocean...the list goes on. What catches my eye and captures my heart to this day are the colors and contrast found in these everyday treasures.
My medium of expression is acrylic paint, as it is easily adaptable and very forgiving. I love mixing paint and rarely use a single color. Acrylic also allows me to change its texture by adding a variety of mediums. For instance, I often use palette knife to add fun texture by mixing gel medium right into my paint.
I'm a self-taught life-long student of art. Creating tends to teach me quite a bit about myself as well. I continue to be blessed by the support and encouragement of very important people in my life, as well as some wonderful art mentors I've had over the years. They remind me in so many ways to fly boldly in the face of hesitation and refuse to do less than freely and joyfully create!
My love of creating also represents part of the sweet bond that lives on between me and my Mom. God gifted her with the ability to see this world through the eyes of an artist, and with the wonder, appreciation, and enthusiasm to match. I think of her so often and know she'd be thrilled that I am passionately living my artistic dreams.
Being swept up in a painting is really all about the story, isn't it...my story, your story. It's such a privilege for me to be invited into someone's life, and I so look forward to any chance I have to listen to a new friend recreate their life scene that connects them to one of my pieces. One of the greatest joys in my life is to add significantly to another's. It's just icing on the cake that I have so much fun doing it!
