I'm a visual artist who works in paint, sculpture, and with biological media. I'm very interested in the human body (both insides and outsides) as well as vast natural processes. Recently, I've been working with mold to develop a new imaging technique in which UV light manipulates the growth of the fungus into images and forms. My processes are research intensive and hands on. They can sometimes reflect deep communal and local atrocities (such as my piece "Coldwater Creek Effigy," which is a clay form I handmade from illegally dumped radioactive waste and contaminated medical testing supplies.
From this waste, an estimated 6000 people in St. Louis developed cancer. [note: all OSHA guidelines were followed as required]). Although my works appear broad, they mostly center on a source of harm, biological, physical, and emotional. I believe this is why they sometimes come off as "creepy" but beautiful.
