McKenzie Blu is an 18 year-old artist based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. All her life she has had an engrossment in art and wanted to do it for a living. She experimented in all types of media, but it wasn't until 2016 where she fell in love with her favorite medium- oil paint. She took a particular interest in portraits as she feels she can portray her emotions through it. This is also prevalent in her photography and design work. With her long history of debilitating mental illnesses, Blu’s pieces represent the insight of her mind and everyday feelings. Blu’s goal with her art is to bring awareness to mental health issues and show how art can be a coping mechanism for not only herself, but also for other people.
Blu has won both local, and national awards for her pieces. She has won the superintendent's awards twice for her drawings and photography. Along with that, she has also been awarded with honorable mentions, silver and gold keys in scholastic art and writing for a plethora of her works. One of her gold key’s got moved up to the American visions award and was shown in Carnegie Hall. Her work has been shown in the Bellagio International Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. Blu has also worked alongside professional photographers and mural artists.
