Zahra Farooq is a South Florida resident, artist, and art teacher who currently lives in Miami, FL. She started as a new art teacher in the 2016-2017 school year at Hialeah Gardens Elementary. In 2018-19, she began teaching at West Lakes Preparatory Academy, which is a new K-8 school. As of 2021, she now teaches Elementary and Middle School students at West Lakes Preparatory Academy, which is part of the Miami Dade County Public Schools. She has entered in countless of exhibitions and received awards.
Since 2018 to present, she has had numerous paintings exhibited with other art educators in the Miami Dade County Public Schools’ Superintendent Suite. In September and October 2018, she taught her workshop, which was called The Art of Mehndi Through Mixed Media both locally and through the state Florida Art Educators Association 2018 Conference. Her childhood and culture have shaped and influence her artistic practices and advocacy. In October 2020, she received a grant and an award to further study her culture within Islamic Art through Oolites Art -The Ellies Teacher Travel Grant. As an educator and artist, she continues to learn and practice different techniques, mediums, and skills with continuous improvement
